Renault vehicle electrics today are very advanced and when things go wrong accurate fault finding within these systems or "diagnostics" are a very important area but they are a minefield in most people’s minds. Who can you really trust as everyone appears to be an expert with impressive looking workshops and hi-tech pieces of kit? Looks can be deceiving as can the actual ability of the 'generic' kit and the actual experience of the operator in question. Some equipment simply cannot access the full network of computers leading to incorrect diagnosis and costly guesses. We employ dealer level equipment by SPX and are trained to use it on systems such as Petrol/Diesel Injection, Immobiliser/Alarm, FAP fuel additives/DPF Regeneration, SRS/Airbags, Body control/UCH, ABS/ESP/SAS/Traction control, CAN-Bus Networks and more.
The purpose of a "timing belt" or "cam belt" is to provide a connection between the camshaft(s) and crankshaft ensuring the pistons and valves operate in the correct sequence. Not to be confused with the“aux belt” which is located on the outside of the engine and drives the vehicles accessories, they require frequent replacement. If the timing belt breaks on a modern Renault engine mechanical engine damage will occur resulting in a very pricey repair bill. Why replace a good belt?. Incorrect tension and wear can allow the timing belt to slip, resulting in very poor performance, increased fuel consumption, a no-start condition or engine damage. The manufacturers provide a replacement schedule and repair information for this critical component at around 72,000 miles or 5years (which ever milestone is reached first, not which is more convenient to you).
